Mountain Biking
The trails around Madrona trace ancient paths once used by donkeys carrying goods to market. Today, they are among the most rewarding mountain bike routes in the Eastern Pyrenees — dramatic scenery, varied terrain, and centuries of history combined. Trails run from relaxed half-day rides through the foothills to epic full-day ascents on the flanks of Canigou. Hundreds of kilometres of marked trails from green to black grade — something for every level of rider.
Hiking and Walking
The hills and mountains around Madrona offer some of the finest walking in the Pyrenees. Trails range from gentle foothill walks through garrigue and vineyard to demanding ascents above 2,000 metres. Medieval abbeys appear around rocky bends, Cathar fortresses crown distant ridgelines, and Canigou's peak is visible on almost every trail.
Adventure
For those who want to push further, the Eastern Pyrenees delivers. Canyoning in the Gorges de Galamus — abseils, rock pools and ice-cold turquoise water — is one of the most exhilarating half-days in the region. Paragliding from the Albères gives a panoramic view from the Pyrenees to the sea, with tandem flights for all levels. The Banyuls marine reserve is outstanding for snorkelling and diving.
