Retreats
Private, peaceful, and off the beaten track, Madrona is hidden among 235 acres of wild Mediterranean forest in the foothills of the Eastern Pyrenees. Our restored 13th-century Catalan farmhouse offers a feeling of home and a sense of belonging, - a place for creatives of all disciplines to gather with purpose. Whether you're hosting a yoga retreat, a workshop for writing, reading or painting, a makers workshop, leadership off-site, artist residency, culinary retreat or simply bringing together a group of like-minded people, Madrona provides a setting to hold space and reconnect - with nature, with one another and with fresh ideas.
Ten bedrooms sleep up to twenty-two. They are spacious rooms, and deliberately so — after a day spent in company, most people want a door they can close. Every window looks out at trees or hillside, and little passes outside them but weather and birds.
Each room is decorated for calm rather than effect. Guests tend to sleep unusually well here, and say so at breakfast.
No two gatherings are the same, so we start with a conversation. Tell us what you want the week to do for your group, and we'll build around it — the shape of the days, when people eat, when they're left alone.
We know this area well, and we'll bring in the parts worth having: guided walks into the hills, an olive oil tasting at Querubi, wine tastings with the producers we buy from ourselves, treatments, a chef in the kitchen. Or none of it, if what you need is an empty house and quiet. Come and let the land work its magic.
Life here follows the rhythms of the land. Mornings begin with birdsong, coffee on the terrace and light spilling across the mountains. Itineraries can be complemented with guided hikes, olive oil tastings at neighbouring Querubi, wine tastings with nearby producers, restorative treatments, private chefs and experiences rooted in the culture and landscape of French Catalonia.
Guests can enjoy walks through the olive groves, nourishing shared meals made from wholesome, chemical-free local produce, time spent reading beneath the trees and conversations that continue long after the sun has set.
‘Querubi came first; to us, the land was too special not to share and therefore inspired Madrona. A space where we could share our land with others… We started in 2017, and there were a few things we wouldn't budge on: that it would bring people together, that people would leave feeling hopeful, that it would stay true to the house's Catalan roots. This is the area we call home, and we're proud to share it with you.’

Our Spaces
The Terrace
Facing the morning sun with panoramic views across the Pyrenees, the terrace is a peaceful place for group movement, meditation or simply welcoming the day.
The Platform
Set just beyond the house, this expansive outdoor platform offers a beautiful and immersive setting for physical activity, talks, ceremonies or special evening gatherings beneath the stars, surrounded by deep forest as far as the eye can see.
The Kitchen
The heart of Madrona. A place where market produce is prepared, long lunches unfold, and strangers quickly become friends around the communal farmhouse table — long enough to seat all 22, so nobody eats apart. There's a separate chef's kitchen as well, which means catering can be prepped and cleared without taking over the room..
The Lounge / The Reading Room
The main gathering room of the house. Stone walls, light from both sides, and the forest in view wherever you sit. Deep sofas and floor cushions mean it works as easily for a circle or a talk as for an afternoon with a book — and the shelves are full of Penguin paperbacks if you arrive without one. Double doors open onto the terrace, where the forest runs out on every side. Somewhere to step outside and breathe it in.
The Outdoor Table
From leisurely breakfasts to celebratory feasts, the long outdoor table brings everyone together beneath the shade of the canopy, surrounded by the lavender and rosemary.
Swimming Pool
The shaded poolside area offers space for yoga, breathwork or meditation, while the generous outdoor sofas invite long conversations, quiet reading and a great place to commune for poolside drinks of an evening.
